Board of Education Adopts Requested FY 2021 Operating and Capital Budget, and FY 2022–26 Capital Improvement Program

The Howard County Board of Education on February 13, 2020, adopted its Operating and Capital Budget Requests for the 2020–2021 school year (Fiscal Year 2021), and Capital Improvement Program for FY 2022–26. The budget requests will be submitted to the Howard County Executive in early March.

Mt. Hebron Seniors Win Congressional App Challenge

Mt. Hebron High School seniors Caroline Kasuba, Rashi Kejriwal and Shreya Santhanagopalan recently won the 2019 Congressional App Challenge for Maryland’s 7th Congressional District for their application, Safe Haven. The app is designed to provide safe, comfortable temporary homes through crowd-sourced volunteers for people who have been displaced by natural disasters.

HCPSS Welcomes Korean Science Teacher Delegation

HCPSS recently welcomed its seventh delegation of South Korean science teachers in a professional development and cultural exchange program, benefitting both visiting and HCPSS participants. The 41 teacher delegates visited secondary classrooms to study best practices in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) instruction and implementation of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

HCPSS Named a 2020 Best Employer for Diversity by Forbes

For the second year in a row, the Howard County Public School System was named one of America’s Best Employers for Diversity for 2020 by Forbes magazine. HCPSS is No. 168 overall on the national list of 500 employers.
