Tobacco Awareness Program for Teens Virtual Class, May 19, 2021

In collaboration with the Howard County Health Department, HCPSS is offering the Tobacco Awareness Program for Teens virtually on Wednesday, May 19 from 1:30-3 p.m..

In-Person Learning Opportunities/Participation for Remainder of 2020-2021 School Year

Now that the hybrid model is in full operation, HCPSS schools have determined that limited space remains available to allow additional students to participate in in-person learning during the current school year. Each school will continue to work toward filling all available capacity by inviting additional students to return to the school building for two or five days per week.

HCPSS Students Place in 2021 Maryland State Literacy Contest

Howard County Public School Principal Named Washington Post 2021 Principal of the Year

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is proud to recognize Deep Run Elementary School (DRES) Principal Denise Lancaster as The Washington Post’s 2021 Principal of the Year. After recently being named the HCPSS Principal of the Year, Lancaster was chosen from among 19 finalists representing school systems in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

HCPSS Secondary Mathematics Coordinator Honored with National Mathematics Leadership Award

HCPSS Coordinator of Secondary Mathematics Jonathan (Jon) Wray was recently recognized with the highest national honor for mathematics education leadership, the 2020 Ross Taylor / Glenn Gilbert National Leadership Award. As a recipient of this award, Wray is recognized for his significant contributions to mathematics education, concern for his fellow educators, self-reflection and continuous growth, and understanding of mathematics education issues.

HCPSS Schools Honored as 2021 Maryland Green Schools

This year, two Howard County public schools became newly certified as Maryland Green Schools, and two were named Sustainable Schools by the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE). HCPSS has a total of 49 schools that participate in the Maryland Green Schools program.

Student Scientists Present Findings from Reimagined Watershed Project

HCPSS Superintendent Michael J. Martirano joined other county leaders and decision makers on April 21 at the seventh Annual Watershed Report Card Virtual Summit, hosted by the Howard County Conservancy. At the summit, student representatives presented their Watershed Report Card, a yearlong assessment of the watersheds that drain Howard County, all of which impact the Chesapeake Bay.

Commit to Participate in the HCPSS 2021-2022 Digital Education Center by May 5, 2021

Parents/guardians who wish to commit to the fully online HCPSS Digital Education Center for next school year should log in to HCPSS Connect Synergy by Wednesday, May 5 at 4 p.m. Families must commit to the DEC for the full 2021-2022 school year.
