HCPSS Students Take Top Honors at Annual Young Authors’ Contest

Seven HCPSS students were selected among the winners of the 2022-2023 Young Authors’ Contest (YAC). Organized by the State of Maryland Literacy Association (SoMLA), the contest is open to Maryland public and private school students in grades 1-12 who write and submit a poem and/or a short story on a topic of their choosing.
HCPSS Class of 2023 Graduation Dates Set, May 24-June 1, 2023

Howard County Public School System has announced the graduation ceremony schedule for the 2022-2023 school year. All ceremonies are scheduled to take place at Merriweather Post Pavilion, with the exception of Cedar Lane School, which will be held in person at that school. Graduations will be available for viewing live online and on-demand following each ceremony, and will be rebroadcast on the HCPSS local cable channel in Howard County (Comcast 95, Verizon 42).

Wilde Lake HS’ Brandon Lauer Named Maryland Athletic Director of the Year

Wilde Lake High School Athletic and Activities Manager (AAM) Brandon Lauer has been named a Maryland State Athletic Director of the Year by the Maryland State Athletic Directors Association (MSADA). The award is presented to an athletic administrator who has significantly impacted students’ lives and used athletics to progress in the school and community’s social and cultural environments. Candidates must be MSADA members and have received the District Athletic Director of the Year Award within the past two years.

HCPSS Submits Blueprint Plan to the State

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) has submitted its initial draft of the Blueprint Local Implementation Plan to the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and the Accountability and Implementation Board (AIB). Community members are invited to review the current draft plan and submit feedback to HCPSS.
