HCPSS Superintendent Presents 2023-2024 Operating Budget Proposal

Superintendent Dr. Michael J. Martirano presented his proposed operating budget for the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) fiscal year 2023–2024 (FY 2024) during a presentation to the Board of Education on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

2023 Summer Programs In-Person Registration Support

HCPSS staff will provide in-person assistance for current HCPSS families who need help submitting their Synergy online enrollment requests for the registration-based summer programs.

Howard County Dance Festival, Jan. 28, 2023

January 17th, 2023

Howard County Public School System will host the 2023 Howard County Dance Festival on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 3 p.m. at Atholton High School. The event will feature performances by all 12 HCPSS high school dance companies and the 2022-2023 All-County Dance Performance Ensemble.

2023 Summer Programs Registration to Open Feb. 1, 2023

Online enrollment requests for currently enrolled HCPSS students will open Wednesday, February 1 at 6 p.m. Enrollment requests can be made by a parent, guardian, school counselor or school achievement liaison. Enrollment requests are made via HCPSS Connect Synergy.

G/T Advisory Seeks Nominations for Educator Recognition, Due March 3, 2023

Now through March 3, families and students have the opportunity to recognize a G/T Resource Teacher, content or classroom teacher, or administrator who has enriched the educational experience of advanced-level learners. ALL educators for whom submissions are received will be recognized.

Discover HCPSS’ Newest Middle School Electives: Theatre and Dance

Over the past couple of years, HCPSS has launched a quarter-long theatre elective for sixth grade students; full-year theatre electives for seventh and eighth grade students; and a year-long dance elective. Next fall, HCPSS will add yet another year-long dance elective, enabling students who took the first dance elective to advance to a higher level and position themselves to take Dance II in high school.

2023 Summer Programs Preview Available Online

Parents/guardians and students can now view/download the 2023 Summer Programs Preview, which includes descriptions of HCPSS’ four summer programs and enrollment information. Online enrollment requests for current HCPSS students will open Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023 at 6 p.m.

Oakland Mills HS Food Pantry Brings School and Community Together to Help Local Families

Once a month, community members’ cars line the Oakland Mills High School (OMHS) parking lot to attend the school’s food pantry. Established in 2017 in response to an OMHS student’s independent research project, it has since evolved into a large-scale, year-round operation, bringing together the Howard County Food Bank, Wegmans, as well as various OMHS student groups and staff to collect and distribute non-perishable food items, produce, diapers and wipes to families in need.

Board of Ed. Announces Community Engagement Opportunities for School Start Times Decision
