Howard County Public School Principal Named Washington Post 2021 Principal of the Year
The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is proud to recognize Deep Run Elementary School (DRES) Principal Denise Lancaster as The Washington Post’s 2021 Principal of the Year. After recently being named the HCPSS Principal of the Year, Lancaster was chosen from among 19 finalists representing school systems in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Scheduled Board Actions on School Resource Officers Moved to May 11, 2021
Based on new information provided by County Executive Calvin Ball, Howard County Police Department Chief Lisa Myers and State’s Attorney Rich Gibson during a press conference held on April 21, 2021, the Board of Education will move their scheduled discussions on School Resource Officers (SROs), previously scheduled for the April 29 Board meeting, to the next scheduled Board meeting on May 11, 2021.
LindaBen Foundation Partnership Supports Students and Families
The Howard County Public School System has partnered with the LindaBen Foundation to support students and their families by providing food and housing assistance. LindaBen Foundation will collaborate with Hammond Middle School and the HCPSS Office of Pupil Personnel Services to support school families facing food scarcity, economic challenges and housing instability by providing non-perishable food items, housing assistance, Thanksgiving meals and holiday gift cards.
Board of Education Honors 2021 Friends of Education Award Recipient and Nominee
The Howard County Board of Education will recognize the Kiwanis Club of Ellicott City with its prestigious Friends of Education Award during the 4 p.m. Board meeting on Thursday, April 15, 2021.
New Partnership Spreads Acts of Kindness by Increasing Access to School Supplies
The Howard County Public School System has partnered with The Kindness Pantry to support teachers and students by providing an inventory of school supplies to schools.
HCPSS Students Named 2021 Carson Scholars
Thirty HCPSS students in Grades 4-11, who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and humanitarianism, have been recognized as 2021 Carson Scholars. Carson Scholars must have a minimum GPA of 3.75 and selflessly give of themselves, their time, and their talents to others.
The Council of Elders Partnership Nurtures and Recognizes Black Student Achievement
Since 1992, a partnership between The Council of Elders of the Black Community of Howard County and the Howard County Public School System has cultivated academic success and leadership qualities and promoted responsibility and community service among HCPSS Black students. The partnership was recently updated, so members of The Council of Elders collaborate with HCPSS to create and maintain a school system environment where all students are recognized, supported, strengthened, and empowered to meet and exceed high standards of academic excellence and student citizenship.
HCPSS Fine Arts Coordinator Earns National Art Education Leadership Award
Gino Molfino, Coordinator of Fine Arts for the Howard County Public School System, has been named the recipient of the 2021 National Supervision/Administration Art Educator Award from the National Art Education Association. The award is the highest national honor for arts education leadership,
HCPSS Board of Education Transition to Hybrid Meetings
The Howard County Board of Education will transition to a hybrid board meeting format beginning with the March 11, 2021 meeting, with some Board members and staff participating in person while others continue participating remotely.
