Scheduled Board Actions on School Resource Officers Moved to May 11, 2021

April 22nd, 2021

The Howard County Board of Education was scheduled to take action on two items related to School Resource Officers (SROs) at the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting on April 29, 2021. The items included approval of a joint Memorandum of Understanding with the Howard County Police Department, and a safety and security plan for schools that considered options for both retaining and eliminating SROs.

Based on new information provided by County Executive Calvin Ball, Howard County Police Department Chief Lisa Myers and State’s Attorney Rich Gibson during a press conference held on April 21, 2021, the Board of Education will move their scheduled discussions on School Resource Officers (SROs), previously scheduled for the April 29 Board meeting, to the next scheduled Board meeting on May 11, 2021. This additional time will allow staff from the school system and county government to update the Memorandum of Understanding being proposed with the points introduced by the County Executive and to consider feedback provided by Board of Education members.
