Board of Education to Present 2021 Friends of Education Award, April 15, 2021

March 31st, 2021

The Howard County Board of Education will recognize the Kiwanis Club of Ellicott City with its prestigious Friends of Education Award during the 4 p.m. Board meeting on Thursday, April 15, 2021. The Board meeting may be viewed live on Comcast channel 95 or Verizon channel 42 or web streamed.

The Kiwanis Club of Ellicott City has been passionate in its support for Howard County students since the club was chartered in 1940. Members of the club provide extensive support for students through multiple commitments, including sponsorship of Key Clubs at Atholton, Centennial, Glenelg, Marriotts Ridge, Mt. Hebron and River Hill high schools, through which hundreds of student participants contribute many hours of service to the community each year. Additionally, the Kiwanis Club sponsors the Backpacks for Break service initiative with Cradlerock Elementary School and Lake Elkhorn Middle School, as well as a Terrific Kids recognition program at Bryant Woods Elementary School.

The Board will also acknowledge Friends of Education nominee St. Peter’s Episcopal Church for its contributions to the school system.

The Friends of Education Award was established in 2001 to salute exemplary volunteer contributions of time and talent that directly support academic achievement and safe learning environments for the HCPSS.

More information on the Friends of Education Award, including a link to a list of previous award winners, can be found on the HCPSS website.
