The Board of Education will announce a decision related to the Superintendent Contract during its Feb. 10, 2022, meeting.

Board of Education Suspends Midterms for the 2021-2022 School Year

During the December 16, 2021 meeting of the Howard County Board of Education, the Board voted to suspend midterms for the 2021–2022 school year. Additionally, the Board voted to make the final exam worth 10% of the course final grade. Previously, midterms and finals were each worth 5% of final course grades. The Board also eliminated finals from semester-long courses that occur in either semester of the 2021–2022 school year.

Update: Dec. 16, 2021 and Jan. 13, 2022 Board Meetings to be Hybrid Sessions

The Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021 and Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022 meetings of the Howard County Board of Education, recently announced as virtual meetings, will be held in hybrid format. Both meetings will begin at 4 p.m.

Howard County Board of Education Approves School Resource Officer Memorandum of Understanding

At the Board of Education meeting on June 24, 2021, the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) Board of Education approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Howard County Police Department (HCPD) on the School Resource Officer (SRO) program for the 2021–2022 school year.

2021-2022 SMOB Election to be Held Online on May 5-7, 2021

The Howard County Association of Student Councils (HCASC) will hold its online general election for the 2021-2022 Student Member of the Board (SMOB) on May 3-5, 2021, with students voting on Canvas. The 2021-2022 SMOB candidates are Peter Banyas of Howard High School and Dhruvi Mirani of Glenelg High School.

Board of Education Welcomes New Members and Elects New Leaders

Three new Board of Education members were sworn in, and the Board selected Dr. Chao Wu as Chair and Jennifer Mallo as Vice Chair during the virtual December 7, 2020, meeting of the Howard County Board of Education. New Board members Dr. Yun Lu, Jolene Mosley and Antonia Barkey Watts were elected in November, and Christina Delmont-Small and Mallo were re-elected.
