Mt. Hebron HS Student Wins 2022 U.S. Army Blues Solo Competition
Mt. Hebron High School trumpet player Aiden Interrante recently won the 2022 U.S. Army Blues Solo Competition high school division. As the winner, he will perform at a concert this May with The Army Blues, the premiere jazz ensemble of the U.S. Army Band. He also will create a recording with the ensemble that will be live-streamed this summer.
Redistricting Process for the 2023-2024 School Year Begins
On January 27, 2022, the Board of Education directed HCPSS staff to initiate the boundary review process outlined in Policy 6010 School Attendance Areas. This review will include boundary modifications to establish an attendance area for New High School #13 and make related adjustments. Details and information on the redistricting process can be found online.
2022-2023 Kindergarten Registration Opens March 7, 2022
Parents/guardians of children who will be five as of September 1, 2022, must enroll their children in kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year. To begin the enrollment process, complete the online registration form. Your child’s school will contact you to schedule an in-person or virtual meeting to complete the registration process.
Howard County Reports Record High Graduation Rate for Class of 2021
The Howard County Public School System Class of 2021 achieved a graduation rate of 94.05%, which exceeds the Maryland average of 87.2 percent and the highest rate since 2011. The 2021 graduation rate is a 1.26 percentage point increase from the Class of 2019.

HCPSS’ High School Gifted and Talented (G/T) Orchestra will perform side-by-side with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra on Friday, March 4. The event is free and open to the public.
2022 Summer Programs Registration to Reopen March 1, 2022
Online enrollment requests for currently enrolled HCPSS students will reopen Tuesday, March 1 at 6 p.m. for the following programs: BSAP Summer Institute, G/T Summer Institutes for Talent Development, Innovative Pathways High School, and STARTALK Chinese Language Summer Camp.
Mayfield Woods MS Counselor Named Howard County Counselor of the Year
The Professional School Counselors of Howard County (PSCHC) recently named Mayfield Woods Middle School (MWMS) Counselor Susan Bradley as its School Counselor of the Year.
The annual award is presented to a Howard County school counselor who has worked as a counselor for at least five years; been responsible for innovation and leadership in counseling programs; and provided outstanding service to their school or community.
Hanover Hills ES’ Jeff Leard Named Howard County School Psychologist of the Year
Hanover Hills Elementary School (HHES) Psychologist Jeff Leard has been named School Psychologist of the Year by the Howard County School Psychologists Association (HCSPA). The annual award is given to a school psychologist with at least five years of experience who works directly with students to provide a full range of psychological services, and who excels in each area of the National Association of School Psychologists Practice Model.
