Redistricting Process for the 2023-2024 School Year Begins

March 2nd, 2022

On January 27, 2022, the Board of Education directed HCPSS staff to initiate the boundary review process outlined in Policy 6010 School Attendance Areas. This review will include boundary modifications to establish an attendance area for New High School #13 and make related adjustments. Details and information on the redistricting process can be found online.

The new HCPSS High School #13 is scheduled to open for the 2023-2024 school year with 1,680 seats. The school is located near Mission Road and Washington Boulevard in Jessup, within the current Hammond High School attendance area. The communities located in the southeastern part of Howard County are most likely to be impacted by this redistricting process. Changes in school attendance areas as a result of this process will take effect beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.

Community members will have multiple opportunities and ways to provide input, beginning with spring community input workshops. The workshops will be facilitated by staff from HCPSS and independent consultant Cooperative Strategies (CS), LLC.

The workshops will provide an opportunity for the community to learn about the scope, timeline and process of the 2023-2024 school year redistricting. The community may also provide input regarding their priorities and concerns to inform HCPSS and CS staff, and work with small groups to learn about other community members’ perspectives. No boundary scenarios will be presented at the workshops.

REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED

If you are unable to attend a workshop, meeting materials and a survey, will be posted on the redistricting website by March 8.
