HCPSS Students Selected to Perform with Honor Band of America
Earlier this year, three HCPSS students were selected to participate in the 2024 Honor Band of America. Sophomores Noah Peng (Marriotts Ridge High School/percussion) and Eli Krakower (Glenelg High School/euphonium), and junior Louis-Félix Gauthier (Wilde Lake High School/tuba) were among only 75 students nationwide chosen for the elite ensemble.

HCPSS is currently seeking candidates for membership on the following SY24-25 Policy Advisory Committees: and Policy 1020 Sexual Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct and Policy 10030 Contests Sponsored by Outside Organizations.
New Partnership with The Collective Columbia Supports HCPSS Music
HCPSS recently signed a partnership agreement with The Collective Columbia. Under the agreement, The Collective will provide performance opportunities for high school student choral groups and host HCPSS music teachers for professional development and the Teacher as Artists music concert series. The Collective will also work with HCPSS’ academic offices to explore internship opportunities for high school students.
James Obasiolu Elected 2024-2025 Student Member of the Board
Atholton High School (AHS) junior James Obasiolu was elected Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB) for the 2024-2025 school year. The election, open to all middle and high school students, was conducted by the Howard County Association of Student Councils (HCASC) on May 1.
Waverly ES Teacher Wins Financial Education Excellence Award
Waverly Elementary School Gifted and Talented teacher Amy Cargiulo has been honored with the Maryland Financial Education and Capability Award for elementary school teachers.
Art 2/Photo 1 Showcase Through June 6, 2024
Members of the public are invited to see the Art 2/Photo 1 Showcase, featuring artwork by students from all 13 high schools across Howard County. The artwork is on display through June 6 in the main hallway of the Howard County Department of Education, 10910 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City.
Howard County Board of Education Closed Meeting Update
The Howard County Board of Education is scheduled to meet today, Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in closed session at 4:30 p.m. Prior to the closed session meeting, the Board will take action on a Consent Agenda Restricted item during the open session.
Howard County Students Excel in Regional MESA Competition
Earlier this year, more than 500 HCPSS students from 20 elementary, middle and high schools competed in a virtual HCPSS Math, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Day Competition. During the event, HCPSS students participated in several different science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) challenges.
Watershed Report Card Program Celebrates 10 Years of Bringing Howard County Together to Advocate for the Environment
Ninth and 10th grade biology students, teachers, and administrators from HCPSS high schools and Homewood Center, Howard County Conservancy staff, and state and local representatives gathered at the Conservancy on April 17 for the 10th annual Howard County Watershed Summit.
HCPSS Students Named Semifinalists in 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program
Three HCPSS students have been named semifinalists in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The honor recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative, and performing arts, as well as in career and technical education fields.
