HCPSS Community Update, July 26, 2022
July 26th, 2022
We hope all our staff, students and families are having a wonderful summer. Please see below for several updates and information.
Communications Reminder!
HCPSS systems will update in early August, at which point parents will automatically receive communication from your child’s 2022-2023 school. Prior to that rollover, you will continue to receive communication from your child’s 2021-2022 school. Please do not unsubscribe! Unsubscribing from any HCPSS or school message will block you from receiving all messages from the district and your child’s school.
Free Summer Meals, Through August 12
Meals are provided weekdays through Aug. 12 at no cost to HCPSS students, and any children aged 18 and under at locations throughout Howard County. There are no applications, enrollment or fees to participate in this program.
Connect Maintenance Window, Wednesday, July 27
The vendor for HCPSS Connect will be completing regular updates beginning at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27 and through no longer than 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 28. During this time, parents/guardians may not be able to or experience a sluggish response when trying to access Connect, including Canvas and Synergy. Students will be able to access Canvas. Once the update is complete, users may continue to log in as usual.
Innovative Pathways Graduation, Thursday, July 28
Our celebration of the HCPSS Class of 2022 continues with the Innovative Pathways Summer Commencement, Thursday, July 28 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will be streamed live and available later on-demand online.
Back to School Information Forthcoming
Complete information on starting the 2022-2023 school year, including the bus stop locator, will be available online and shared with families via email by mid-August. Final schedules and teacher assignments will be available in HCPSS Connect Synergy in late August. Complete details will be in our back-to-school messaging.
2022-2023 School Meals
Families are reminded that the federal government has not extended waivers allowing free meals for all students. Consequently, for the 2022-2023 school year, students whose families do not qualify for free or reduced lunch will be required to pay the daily meal price.
Many HCPSS families are eligible to participate in the Free and Reduced Price Meals (FARMs) program, which provides children with a wide range of benefits. Families are urged to check their eligibility and complete a FARMs application as soon as possible. Families must submit a new application every school year. Details on the Free and Reduced Meals program, including a link to apply, are available online.
Job & Hiring Fairs
To address current staff shortages in multiple areas, HCPSS is hosting several hiring fairs from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on July 30, Aug. 13 and Aug. 27 at Wilde Lake Middle School. HCPSS is currently looking for new and experienced classroom teachers, special educators, paraeducators, substitute teachers, food services staff and central office support staff. Learn more about the vacancies and how to register for a hiring fair.
