HCPSS Students Named 2019 Carson Scholars

Twenty-four HCPSS students in Grades 4–11, who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and humanitarianism, have been named 2019 Carson Scholars. The scholars will be recognized at a regional awards banquet on Sunday, May 5, 2019.
Bright Minds Foundation to Give Outstanding Alumni Award, Nominations Due April 5, 2019

Open to all HCPSS alumni, the Bright Minds Foundation will recognize three former students with its first ever Work Hard Be Kind Outstanding Alumni Award. Nominations are due by Friday, April 5.
HCPSS Board of Education Honors Debbie Engle with 2019 Friends of Education Award

The Howard County Board of Education will recognize Debbie Engle with the Friends of Education Award at a reception on Thursday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m., followed by an award presentation at the 4 p.m. Board meeting.

Educators Rising Conference Helps Grow Future Teachers

Approximately 100 HCPSS high school students came together for the countywide Educators Rising Conference at Marriotts Ridge High School. The students learned about the educator career path through breakout sessions, a college fair and a keynote speech by Superintendent Michael J. Martirano.
Howard County 2018 Graduation Rates Exceed State Norms

Graduation data released by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) show Howard County public school students continuing to graduate at higher rates than their peers across Maryland. The 91.95 percent graduation rate for the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) Class of 2018 exceeds the state average and remains the highest among the six Maryland school systems having enrollment of more than 50,000 students.

Staff Focus: Stephanie Discepolo, CTE Resource Teacher

Discepolo—who has dedicated her entire career to HCPSS—has since been working as a CTE resource teacher for 18 years. Generally, she works with local organizations to develop and grow programs for students, mentors new teachers, facilitates professional development for CTE teachers, advises students on post-secondary opportunities, runs the Career Academies Summer Programs, oversees the marketing of CTE programs, organizes special events like the Women in Engineering conference and more.
