Mt. Hebron Economics Teams Win Their Second Dual National Championships

Two teams from Mt. Hebron High School recently won their second dual national championships in a row in the National Economics Challenge, the national competition of academic economics.
HCPSS Students Advance to 2020 National History Day Competition

After recently winning first or second place at the virtual Statewide Maryland History Day Competition, 17 Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) students will advance to the virtual National History Day Competition, taking place June 14-18, 2020. These students have already won competitions at the school and county level, and were competing against hundreds of students from school systems across the state.

Howard County Public School System schools and offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2020, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Adjustments have been made to the distance learning schedules for the week to accommodate this school closure day.
Update on the 2019-2020 Academic Calendar (May 15, 2020)

The Howard County Board of Education will apply to the Maryland State Board of Education for a waiver of five days of missed school. Once the State Board rules on our waiver request, HCPSS will communicate to the public and announce scheduling information for the final day of school.

Dayton Oaks Teacher Inducted into Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Fellowship

Joy Mangiulli, a teacher at Dayton Oaks Elementary School, was one of 10 educators chosen for the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) Sarah D. Barder Fellowship Program. Mangiulli is recognized for excellence in identifying, motivating and developing students with advanced academic ability.
HCPSS Students Named 2020 National Merit Scholar Winners

Twenty HCPSS students have been named winners so far in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program, through the Corporate-Sponsored Merit Scholarship and the $2500 Scholarship awards. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation will announce winners of its college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards in June and July.
