Howard County Students Experience Farm Life

Four students from Harper’s Choice Middle School in Columbia experienced farm life firsthand at Hensing’s Hilltop Acres Farm in Dayton on Tuesday, September 12. The visit is an annual highlight of the Farm-City Celebration, a series of fall events that promote understanding and appreciation between urban citizens and agriculture in Howard County.

Coalition of Public School Superintendents Call on Governor Hogan and Legislators to Protect Students

The leaders of five large Maryland public school systems today called upon Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, the Maryland legislature, and congressional representatives to continue protecting the rights of DACA beneficiaries in the wake of the Trump administration’s announcement of its intent to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program.

Interim Superintendent Presents Capital Budget Proposal

Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) Interim Superintendent Dr. Michael J. Martirano unveiled his proposed Capital Budget for fiscal year 2018–2019 (FY 2019), FY 2020-2024 Capital Improvement Program and FY 2019-2028 Long-Range Master Plan for the Howard County Public School System. HCPSS Invites Howard County Citizens to Attend Regional Attendance Area Open House, September 12-13

Community members are invited to attend an open house on the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) Regional Attendance Area process. The walk-in sessions will be held at two regional locations on September 12 and 13, 2017, where participants may learn about the attendance area adjustment process, ask questions, and provide feedback to inform the Superintendent’s recommendation to the Board of Education.

Board Approves Resolution Recognizing Safe School Zones

The Howard County Board of Education approved a resolution to support and protect the rights of all Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) students, regardless of immigration or citizenship status. The resolution was unanimously approved during the regularly scheduled Board meeting on Thursday, September 7, 2017.

Howard County’s Maddy Halbach Selected as Maryland 2017-18 Teacher of the Year Finalist

Academy of Finance teacher Dr. Maddy Halbach this morning was named one of seven finalists for the Maryland State Department of Education 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year. The state winner will be announced at an awards gala on October 27.
