HCPSS/Howard County Library System Launch A+ Student Card Program

HCPSS students now have a new way to access Howard County Library eContent in the classroom, at home, or anywhere they need to do homework or research. The Howard County Library System (HCLS) and the Howard County Public School System have launched the A+ Student Card to deliver the library system’s extensive catalog of electronic resources directly to students.

Results of the third annual PARCC assessments show Howard County public school students continuing to perform at levels that significantly outpace their peers across the state, as reflected in the 2017 scores released today by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

Board Begins Process to Select a Permanent Superintendent

The Howard County Board of Education voted at its regularly scheduled meeting on August 17, 2017, to move forward with the process to select a permanent superintendent for the Howard County Public School System.
Discrimination, Bullying Policies Updated

HCPSS recently updated implementation procedures for Policy 1010: Discrimination and Policy 1060: Bullying, Cyberbullying, Harassment, or Intimidation. The latest versions are now online. Policy 1010 is currently under review. The Board is scheduled to take action on the revised policy on February 8, 2018.
Solar Eclipse on August 21

A solar eclipse will move through our region on Monday, August 21, 2017, between 1:15-4:00 p.m., with primary coverage occurring at approximately 2:45 p.m. After consulting with the HCPSS Risk Management Office, HCPSS will not restrict outdoor activities on that day. However, parents and staff are advised to review NASA’s guidelines about safe viewing practices, and share the information with students. Coaches will adjust practice schedules as appropriate.

Additional HCPSS Attendance Area Committee meeting scheduled for August 22 & Survey Extended

To consider additional public feedback on school redistricting plans, an Attendance Area Committee meeting is scheduled for August 22 and the AAC public survey is extended to August 20.
