HCPSS/TCOE Community Academy: Navigating HCPSS, Oct. 15

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) and The Council of Elders have partnered to offer “Navigating the Howard County Public School System,” a virtual session focused on how to effectively maintain communication with your child’s school. HCPSS staff will provide a parent demonstration on how to monitor student performance utilizing school system online resources. The session also will provide strategies to help ensure successful parent-teacher conferences.

HS Marching Band Showcase, Oct. 19, 2022

The public is invited to attend and cheer on marching bands from eight Howard County high schools in a showcase Oct. 19 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hammond High School football field.

Multilingual Parent Leadership Program Application Deadline Oct. 2

HCPSS’ Multilingual Parent Leadership Program will begin on Wednesday, October 12. The six-week program is designed to help international parents navigate the school system and develop the confidence to serve as advocates for their children. The program also provides training for international parents to assume leadership roles in schools and the community.

Virtual Parent Empowerment Conference, October 10, 2022

HCPSS’ Department of Special Education is hosting a virtual Parent Empowerment Conference on October 10. The conference will benefit both seasoned parents and those new to special education and will help you advocate for your child and be active and informed members of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP)/Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) team.

Howard County G/T Program Information Nights, Oct. 13 and 27

HCPSS families interested in the Gifted and Talented (GT) Program are invited to come learn about the advanced-level offerings available and how their students can become involved. The evening will begin with an overview of GT Education Program offerings followed by a question and answer session with Central Office GT Education Program staff. Elementary and Secondary programs will be covered on separate days. Families may attend one or both nights.

Apprenticeship Maryland Academy Info Session, May 5, 2022

Current 11th grade students and their parents/guardians are invited to attend an in-person information session on the HCPSS Apprenticeship Maryland Academy, Thursday, May 5 at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the HCPSS Applications and Research Laboratory, 10920 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City.

Jazz in the Woods Festival, April 30, 2022

The Howard County Public School System Fine Arts Office, in partnership with The Inner Arbor Trust, invites the community to attend the third annual Jazz in the Woods Festival. The musical celebration will take place at the Chrysalis-Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods. Tickets are free and the event is open to the public.

High School G/T Orchestra to Share Stage with Time for Three

HCPSS’ High School Gifted and Talented (G/T) Orchestra will perform with Emmy Award-winning string trio, Time for Three, at a concert May 15. The groups each will play separately and together. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online.

Middle/High School Students Invited to Virtual Mental Health Panel, March 23, 2022

The Howard County Association of Student Councils (HCASC) will host a virtual mental health panel for HCPSS middle and high school students. Interested students should pre-register to receive the meeting Zoom link.
