Discover HCPSS’ Newest Middle School Electives: Theatre and Dance
Over the past couple of years, HCPSS has launched a quarter-long theatre elective for sixth grade students; full-year theatre electives for seventh and eighth grade students; and a year-long dance elective. Next fall, HCPSS will add yet another year-long dance elective, enabling students who took the first dance elective to advance to a higher level and position themselves to take Dance II in high school.
2023 Summer Programs Preview Available Online
Parents/guardians and students can now view/download the 2023 Summer Programs Preview, which includes descriptions of HCPSS’ four summer programs and enrollment information. Online enrollment requests for current HCPSS students will open Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023 at 6 p.m.
Oakland Mills HS Food Pantry Brings School and Community Together to Help Local Families
Once a month, community members’ cars line the Oakland Mills High School (OMHS) parking lot to attend the school’s food pantry. Established in 2017 in response to an OMHS student’s independent research project, it has since evolved into a large-scale, year-round operation, bringing together the Howard County Food Bank, Wegmans, as well as various OMHS student groups and staff to collect and distribute non-perishable food items, produce, diapers and wipes to families in need.

Black Student Achievement Program Saturday Math Academy Spring 2023 Program
The HCPSS Black Student Achievement Program (BSAP) Saturday Math Academy (SMA) will offer an in-person enrichment program for Howard County Public School System students in all levels of math for grades 3 through 12 based on course availability. Registration will take place online Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 9:00 a.m.- until capacity is reached. Class space is limited.
Blessings in a Backpack Program Provides Weekend Food for Thunder Hill Elementary School Students
Thunder Hill Elementary School (THES) has partnered with Blessings in a Backpack and the Howard County Sheriff’s Office to begin a weekend food program for THES students. Launched in October, the program is providing packs of non-perishable weekend snack foods for 125 students. The program provides food packs to students every Friday during the school year at no cost to families.

High School 2023-2024 Course Registration, Dec. 19, 2022-Jan. 17, 2023
High school course selection for the 2023-2024 academic year will open Monday, Dec. 19, 2022 8:00 AM, and run through Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023 4:00 PM, for current 8-11 grade students. Beginning Dec. 19, students may view teachers’ course recommendations, and submit course requests and alternate requests by logging into HCPSS Connect.
