HCPSS to Reopen Some Outdoor Facilities, Beginning May 15, 2020

Joy Mangiulli, a teacher at Dayton Oaks Elementary School, was one of 10 educators chosen for the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) Sarah D. Barder Fellowship Program. Mangiulli is recognized for excellence in identifying, motivating and developing students with advanced academic ability.

HCPSS Students Named 2020 National Merit Scholar Winners

Twenty HCPSS students have been named winners so far in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program, through the Corporate-Sponsored Merit Scholarship and the $2500 Scholarship awards. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation will announce winners of its college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards in June and July.

Yesterday I joined the Asian American Educators of Howard County (AAEHC) and the Howard County Human Rights Commission (HCHRC) in issuing a joint statement regarding the importance of compassion and tolerance for all people, especially during this difficult time. While fear and anxiety are natural human responses, it is unfair, unacceptable and destructive to assign blame for the current pandemic, or any other crisis, to an individual or group representing a particular nationality or heritage.
