Pre-Spring Break Update

April 3rd, 2020

The following update was sent to the HCPSS community by Superintendent Michael Martirano on April 3, 2020:

Next week is Spring Break for our students. I know this won’t be the typical Spring Break that we always look forward to. Many have had to cancel travel plans, and we are all feeling strained by the anxiety and restrictions over the last few weeks. I hope these days give you an opportunity to relax and get outside for a breath of fresh air.

Please know that HCPSS food distribution for students will continue next week. There will be no meal service April 10 or 13; meals for those days will be distributed Thursday, April 9, with instructions for storage and preparation.

This year will be a shortened Spring Break for staff, who next week will continue taking part in professional learning to prepare for the teacher-led instruction that will begin later this month. These staff training sessions are intensive, and although you should feel free to contact teachers and principals next week with any questions or concerns, please understand there may be a delay before they are able to respond.

Over the past three weeks we have shared a great deal of information about our work to ensure student learning continues throughout this period of school closure, and to prepare students, families and staff for our transition to formal, remote instruction. You can find all of the information on our HCPSS COVID–19 website, which provides resources and information for Continuity of Learning, answers to many frequently asked questions, and much more. This page is updated regularly so please check back often.

Please continue to focus on your family’s well being and don’t hesitate to reach out for support when needed. My best wishes to you and your family for a safe, healthy and serene week.

The following update provides additional information for families and staff.

Free Wifi through Comcast Xfinity

In addition to providing low cost internet access to eligible families through its Comcast Internet Essentials program, Comcast has opened free access to its Xfinity WiFi network, making hotspots across the country available to anyone, including non-subscribers, at no cost. Search by zip code or city to find a hotspot near you at wifi.xfinity.com.

Meal Distribution During Spring Break

HCPSS is providing free Grab-N-Go meals through April 24 to anyone age 18 and under and/or any HCPSS student, regardless of age, at locations countywide. Meals are available from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., weekdays. Participants will be given a snack, lunch and dinner for that day, as well as a breakfast for the following day, and are encouraged to bring a bag to carry home meals each day. Friday distributions at school locations also will include weekend meals. Note: There will be no meal service April 10 or 13; meals for those days will be distributed Thursday, April 9, with instructions for storage and preparation.
