New Howard County Public Schools Superintendent Launches 90-Day Plan

On Monday, July 1, 2024, his first official day on the job, Superintendent of the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS), William J. Barnes, launched a plan titled, “The First 90 Days” which details the priorities to begin the 2024-2025 school year.

HCPSS Relaunches ESOL Program as English Language Development

Effective July 1, 2024, HCPSS will change the name of its ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program to ELD, or English Language Development, to better create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all students and families.

Wellness Workshop: Parents/Guardians/Caregivers, Monthly May 2024-June 2025

Offered the fourth Thursday of every month from 6-7 p.m. from May 2024 – June 2025, these workshops will delve into the challenges of parenthood and offer techniques to help parents navigate those challenges. Each session will focus on a different topic.

Changes in Social Media and Gaming Access on HCPSS-Issued Chromebooks Effective July 1, 2024

In February, HCPSS announced a change to Instagram access on the HCPSS instructional network. Upon further review, HCPSS is making additional changes regarding student access to social media and gaming sites to eliminate student distraction during the school day and alleviate parent concerns about how students use their school-issued devices at home.
