HCPSS Class of 2023 Graduation Dates Set, May 24-June 1, 2023

Howard County Public School System has announced the graduation ceremony schedule for the 2022-2023 school year. All ceremonies are scheduled to take place at Merriweather Post Pavilion, with the exception of Cedar Lane School, which will be held in person at that school. Graduations will be available for viewing live online and on-demand following each ceremony, and will be rebroadcast on the HCPSS local cable channel in Howard County (Comcast 95, Verizon 42).

HCPSS Board of Education Honor 2023 Friends of Education Award Honorees

The Howard County Board of Education will recognize Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Iota Lamba Omega Chapter with its prestigious Friends of Education Award during the 4 p.m. Board Meeting on April 13, 2023.

Board of Education of Howard County Seeks Members for Operating Budget Review Committee by May 15, 2023

The Board of Education of Howard County invites community organizations and individuals to express interest in appointments to the Board’s Operating Budget Review Committee (OBRC) for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. Community organizations and individuals can submit a statement of interest online by by Monday, May 15, 2023.

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is pleased to announce the rebranding of the High School Gifted and Talented Orchestra as the Howard County Youth Orchestra (HCYO), and the scheduling of its inaugural performance with Guster at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 7:30 p.m.

Maryland State Department of Education Releases 2022 School Report Cards

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) today released its 2022 Maryland School Report Card, containing data about all schools in the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) and across the state of Maryland. HCPSS educators leverage the data provided in the reports to inform instruction and school improvement plans and identify supports needed to help students thrive in the classroom.

Howard County Reports Record High Graduation Rate for Class of 2022

The HCPSS Class of 2022 achieved a graduation rate of 94.59%, a 1.81 percentage point increase from the Class of 2019. The HCPSS 2022 graduation rate exceeds the 2022 Maryland average of 86.3 percent and is the highest rate since 2011.

Board of Education’s Community Advisory Council Seeks Leadership Volunteers

The HCPSS Board of Education’s Community Advisory Council (CAC) announces an open call for leadership volunteers to serve on the Executive Committee for the 2023-2024 school year.

The CAC serves as liaison between the Board of Education (BOE) and the community at large, meets monthly during the school year, and reports directly to the BOE. The Executive Committee receives from the community concerns, information, and inquiries about matters within the province of the Board and researches issues as appropriate.

Board of Education Modifies 2023-2024 Academic Calendar and Approves 2024-2025 Calendar

At its regularly scheduled meeting on Feb. 23, 2023, the Howard County Board of Education modified the HCPSS 2023-2024 academic calendar and approved the 2024-2025 academic calendar.

Board of Education Adjusts School Start Times for the 2023-2024 School Year

At its meeting on Feb. 23, 2023, the Howard County Board of Education adjusted the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) school start times for the 2023-2024 year, shifting high schools to begin at 8:00 a.m., among other changes. There is no impact to the current school year.
