Howard County Lego Team Recognized at 2018 FIRST World Championship

Six Folly Quarter Middle School seventh-graders won a Judges Award at the FIRST World Championships, recently held in Detroit.

HCPSS Named a Best Place to Work by Forbes

The Howard County Public School System was named one of America’s Best Employers for 2018 by Forbes magazine. HCPSS ranked No. 29 out of 500 on the national list and rated fifth within the education industry. HCPSS was the highest among the seven school systems recognized.

Board of Education to Hold Regular Meeting and Public Hearings, June 7, 2018

The Howard County Board of Education will hold its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, June 7, at 4 p.m., with an evening session beginning at 7:30 p.m. Both sessions will be held in the Boardroom at the Department of Education, 10910 Clarksville Pike in Ellicott City.

The Howard County Board of Education will hold a Closed Session on Thursday, May 31, immediately following the Adoption of FY 19 Operating & Capital Budgets & FY 20-24 Capital Improvement Program, which begins at 6 p.m.

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) has reached tentative agreements with the Howard County Administrators Association (HCAA) and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) for two-year employment contracts.

Talbott Springs Elementary School on Track for Replacement of Current Building

The Howard County Board of Education voted during its May 17, 2018 meeting to move forward with re-evaluating and redesigning a replacement of the Talbott Springs Elementary School (TSES). The new school is scheduled for occupancy in August 2022.

Changes to 2018–2019 Academic Calendar Announced

The Howard County Board of Education approved changes to the 2018–2019 academic year calendar. The revised calendar provides greater predictability by including an additional inclement weather closing day and preserving a full Spring Break week, and benefits students, parents and staff who wish to plan schedules in advance.

HCPSS Receives A+ on 2017 School Food Environment Grades Report

The Howard County Public School System received an “A+” and was one of only two Maryland school systems to earn an “A” on the 2017 School Food Environment Grades report from Healthy School Food Maryland.

Howard County Students Advance to 2018 National History Day Competition

Fourteen Howard County Public School System students advanced to the National History Day Competition after winning first or second place at the recent Statewide Maryland History Day Competition.




Board of Education to Meet in Closed Session, May 18, 2018

The Howard County Board of Education will hold a Closed Session on Friday, May 18 at 8:30 a.m. to meet with the Howard County Council. The session will take place in the C. Vernon Gray Conference Room at the George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive in Ellicott City.
