Howard County Public Schools to Eliminate Health Fund Deficit Two Years Ahead of Schedule
Howard County Public School System Superintendent Dr. Michael J. Martirano, joined by Board of Education Chair Dr. Chao Wu, County Executive Calvin Ball, County Council Chair Liz Walsh, and system and county leaders, today announced the school system’s health fund deficit will be eliminated this year (fiscal year 2022) – two years ahead of schedule.
HCPSS Seeks Members for Mathematics Academic Advisory Committee, Apply by August 19, 2021
HCPSS is currently seeking Howard County parents/guardians, community members, high school students, and staff interested in joining the Mathematics Academic Advisory Committee. Advisory committee members share their expertise and exchange ideas to promote continuous improvement of the instructional program for all students and provide guidance and advocacy for the mathematics-related programs.
Howard County Board of Education Approves School Resource Officer Memorandum of Understanding
At the Board of Education meeting on June 24, 2021, the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) Board of Education approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Howard County Police Department (HCPD) on the School Resource Officer (SRO) program for the 2021–2022 school year.

In alignment with the recent federal action making Juneteenth a federal holiday, the Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Michael J. Martirano announce that Howard County Public School System schools and offices will be closed on Friday, June 18, 2021. This is consistent with state and county government announcements regarding closures
HCPSS Seeks Members for Academic Calendar Planning Committee, Apply by June 25, 2021
The Howard County Public School System invites citizens to take an active role in developing the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 academic calendars. Meetings will be held virtually from 6–8 p.m. on July 14, 21, and 28 and August 4, 11, and 18, 2021. Committee members are expected to attend and participate in all meetings.
HCPSS Seeks Members for Student Representation Policy Advisory Committee, Apply by June 24, 2021
HCPSS is currently seeking candidates for membership on the advisory committee for the revision of Policy 2010 Student Representation. This committee will include at least one member representing the general resident stakeholder group. Members of this committee attend 3-4 meetings to discuss and make policy recommendations to the Superintendent.

Board of Education Adopts FY22 Operating & Capital Budgets
The Howard County Board of Education adopted its Operating and Capital Budgets for the 2021-2022 school year (FY 2022). The operating budget totals $942.6 million and the capital budget totals $90.4 million
HCPSS and Howard County Partners Announce Expanded Participation at Upcoming High School Commencements
The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) and several Howard County partners are pleased to announce expanded opportunities for 2021 high school graduates and their families at the upcoming commencement ceremonies being held at Merriweather Post Pavilion. Following updated state guidance on outdoor gatherings, Merriweather Post Pavilion is now able to accommodate additional participation, allowing HCPSS to increase the number of guest tickets for each graduate to four.
