Hammond Middle School mathematics teacher Jennifer Smallenbroek and Mount Hebron High School mathematics teacher Matthew Cox have been selected as the Outstanding Middle and High School Mathematics Teachers of the Year, respectively, by the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM).
Rockburn ES Student Wins State Poster Contest
Rockburn Elementary School (RES) student Edison Lee won first place in the 2024 Maryland Fifth Grade Arbor Day poster contest, sponsored by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR). In recognition of Lee’s success, RES was awarded 15 trees to plant.

Mt. Hebron HS Teams Win National Economics Challenge
For the fourth time in six years, teams from Mt. Hebron High School swept the 2024 National Economics Challenge, the country’s premier competition in academic economics. MHHS’ teams also bested competitors from China, enabling them to secure the world championship title for the seventh time.

Changes in Social Media and Gaming Access on HCPSS-Issued Chromebooks Effective July 1, 2024
In February, HCPSS announced a change to Instagram access on the HCPSS instructional network. Upon further review, HCPSS is making additional changes regarding student access to social media and gaming sites to eliminate student distraction during the school day and alleviate parent concerns about how students use their school-issued devices at home.
