Career Academy Info Sessions, Nov. 12 and Dec. 11, 2024

Current 8-11 grade students and their parents/guardians are invited to attend in-person information sessions on HCPSS career academies on Tuesday, Nov. 12 or Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024 at the Applications and Research Laboratory, 10920 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City, MD. The evening will include two 15-minute information sessions beginning at 6:45 p.m.

Centennial HS Dance Teacher Wins Howard County Arts Council Outstanding Arts Educator Award

Centennial High School (CHS) dance teacher and fine arts instructional team leader Rebecca Clark has been selected to receive the 2024 Outstanding Arts Educator Howie Award by the Howard County Arts Council. Clark was selected based on her contributions to and their impact on the artistic life of Howard County through the arts, arts education, and support of the arts.

HCPSS College Fair, Sept. 30, 2024

HCPSS, Howard Community College & the Potomac & Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling (PCACAC) are partnering to offer the second annual HCPSS College Fair on Monday, Sept. 30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Howard Community College.

Veterans ES Teacher Receives National Civic Education Award

Veterans Elementary School (VES) fifth grade teacher Christian Pensiero recently was named a recipient of the 2024 American Civic Education Teacher Award (ACETA). She is one of only three teachers nationwide to win the award, which recognizes teachers who have shown exceptional expertise, dynamism and creativity in motivating students to learn about the Constitution, U.S. government at the federal, state and local levels, and public policy.

Complete Strategic Planning Survey by Sept. 20

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is building a new strategic plan for the future of our school system and wants to hear from our community. The final plan will reflect HCPSS’ ongoing commitment to educational equity, the five focus areas, Maryland’s Blueprint for the Future’s requirements, and stakeholder values. HCPSS families are asked to complete this survey by Friday, Sept. 20 to provide input about their values for the school system.

HCPSS Marching Band Showcase, Oct. 16 and 21, 2024

HCPSS will host its annual Marching Band Showcase from 7-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16 and Monday, Oct. 21, 2024. The Oct. 16 event will take place at Reservoir High School; the Oct. 21 event will take place at Oakland Mills High School. Each night will feature a different slate of HCPSS marching bands.

HCPSS Seeks Members for Policy Advisory Committee by Sept. 20, 2024

HCPSS is currently seeking candidates for membership on the following SY24-25 Policy Advisory Committee: Policy 2020 Policy Development and Adoption.

Multilingual Parent Leadership Program Application Deadline Sept. 26, 2024

HCPSS’ Multilingual Parent Leadership Program (MPLP) will begin on Thursday, October 10. The six-week program is designed to help international parents navigate the school system and develop the confidence to serve as advocates for their children. The program also provides training for international parents to assume leadership roles in schools and the community.
