Bollman Bridge Elementary School (BBES) math specialist Kate Sandoval has been named a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the nation’s highest award for K-12 teachers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Sandoval is one of six educators, and one of only two math teachers, in Maryland to receive the award.
“Kate is an exemplary teacher who encourages all students to embrace challenges and persevere,” says BBES Principal Connie Fowlkes. “She consistently uses real-world examples to help students make connections and demonstrate their understanding of concepts fostering a love for math. Kate is committed to providing the best for all students.”
As a PAEMST winner, Sandoval will receive an award from the National Science Foundation and the opportunity to attend a series of recognition events and professional development opportunities in Washington, D.C.
In addition to this year’s recognition, Sandoval was a finalist for the PAEMST award in 2022.
