Log in Now to Update Your Family File/Emergency Information for the 2023-2024 School Year!

HCPSS utilizes Family File for parents/guardians to complete emergency information. All parents/guardians must verify and/or update information for each child each school year. Parents/guardians can complete Family File by logging in to HCPSS Connect selecting the More Options tab on the left and then selecting Family File.

Once logged in, parents/guardians will be asked to update or provide the following information:

Changes of address may not be made through Family File. If you have recently moved and have not contacted your child’s 2023–2024 school, please do so as soon as possible.

Resources on how to use Family File may be found online, including instructions on how to reset passwords. If you need additional assistance, please contact your child’s school or complete this Connect Help Form.

Please note that some resources within HCPSS Connect Synergy are not yet available for the 2023–2024 school year, including Homeroom / Transportation. Families are only being asked to complete Family File at this time.


Review the below information if you need help accessing HCPSS Connect:

I don’t know my username –
Your Parent/Guardian username for HCPSS Connect (Synergy, Canvas, etc.) is the email address entered in Family File.

I don’t know my password –
Use the Forgot Password button below the username and password fields. Review the password reset directions for help with the process.

I receive the Account Disabled message –
Accounts will be disabled briefly after too many failed login attempts but unlock automatically. Wait for 30 minutes and then use the Forgot Password button below the username and password fields. Review the password reset directions for help with the process.

Family File is not listed in the More Options Section –
If you do not see the Family File option after selecting the More Options from the left navigation, make sure you are logged in with your parent account and not your student’s account. You should see your name in the top right corner under the Howard County Public School System heading. If you see your student’s name log out and then login with your parent account.

FamilyFile or other pages under “More Options” will not open –
Make sure pop-ups are allowed or try a different browser. (Firefox | Chrome | Safari | Edge | iPhone/iPad > Settings > Safari > General > Block Pop-ups toggle)

The More Options screen is blank –
Trying to clear your browser’s cache or using a different web browser. (Firefox | Chrome | Safari | Edge)

I need to update information displayed in my account –
Contact your child’s school.

I am still having trouble with HCPSS Connect –
Fill out the Help form with detailed information, and a support person will respond.
