February 3rd, 2023
The Council of Elders of the Black community of Howard County and the Howard County Public School System Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion have partnered to present The Essence of Us: Chronicling the African American Experience, a workshop series from which participants will gain a better understanding of African American history and how it is written.
This series is geared toward middle and high school students. Over the course of the four workshops, students will learn about aspects of 20th century African American history while engaging with primary source materials, analyzing texts, formulating critiques, and imagining history from multiple perspectives.
Sessions are scheduled from 10-11 a.m. on Saturdays: Feb. 11, March 11, April 15 and May 13. All those interested should register online.
Workshops will be held both virtually and in-person. Participants will receive an email with details upon registering.
