HCPSS Enhances Pre-K Program for Fall 2022

June 15th, 2022

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is excited to offer an enhanced prekindergarten program, starting in fall 2022. Beginning in August with the start of the 2022-2023 school year, full-day Pre-K, currently offered in seven schools, will be available at 17 elementary schools throughout the county. These 6.5 hour, full-day classes will be co-taught in inclusive classrooms with developmentally appropriate instruction and evidence-based intervention and include lunch/recess and related arts.

Full-day (6.5 hour) MINC-PK will continue to be available at 19 schools in the county. Four and five day MINC-PK classes will be offered.

Full-day Pre-K is open to children who will be 4 by Sept. 1 and meet income eligibility requirements, or are deemed eligible by an Individualized Educational Plan team if special education is needed. Interested families may submit a paper application or apply online.

HCPSS will continue to offer half-day prekindergarten to eligible children. Pre-K students will attend the school to which they are assigned. Families must live in the attendance area of the school where they plan to enroll their child. Use the HCPSS School Locator to find your child’s assigned school and attendance area and verify the pre-K program location.

The first day for both half- and full-day pre-k for the 2022-23 school year is Thursday, Sept. 1. The full HCPSS calendar can be found online. Please note that during emergency closings, the prekindergarten schedule is available online.
