January 8th, 2021

Application Deadline: Friday, January 22, 2021

HCPSS is seeking Howard County teachers, community members, and students in grades 8-11 to serve on the Secondary English Language Arts Textbook Advisory Committee. Members of the committee meet to advise, support, and advocate for the continuous improvement of the Secondary Language Arts program.

The primary focus of the committee is to review diverse texts and consider where these texts can be embedded in the curriculum for grades 6-12. Additional functions of the committee are to give input and assist in the development of language arts programs and resources at the middle and high school levels, provide public support and advocacy for programs and initiatives in a variety of forums, and educate the community on the nature of effective language arts instruction and methods of promoting language arts growth in the home.

Committee members serve a two-year term. All meetings will be held virtually for the remainder of the current school year and the committee will use digital copies of the texts under review.

Interested participants should complete an online application by Friday, January 22, 2021. All applicants will be notified of the status of their application by January 29, 2021.
