Apply for Student Member of the Board of Education by February 4, 2021

January 8th, 2021

Each year, one student represents the student voice as a member on the Board of Education. HCPSS grants the Student Member of the Board (SMOB) full status as a board member and can vote on all issues except issues pertaining to budget, personnel, or other restricted matters.

Any current sophomore or junior in Howard County may apply for this position. The student must be regularly enrolled in an HCPSS high school and academically eligible. A student delegate convention will convene on February 17 to interview qualified applicants and nominate the final two candidates who will run for the Student Member position. On February 22, nominated candidates and at least one of their parents will meet to talk about the duties and responsibilities of Student Member candidates. The election will be held the week of April 19 in all HCPSS middle and high schools.

Students who wish to be considered for this position must submit a completed application by 4 p.m., Thursday, February 4.

The application and election process are outlined online.
