The American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) recently recognized Daniel Desmond, Centennial High School German teacher and World Language instructional team leader, with a Goethe‐Institut/AATG Certificate of Merit. He is one of seven educators who has received this national award, which honors achievement in furthering German teaching in the United States.

German teachers may be recognized for outstanding teaching, creative and successful activities promoting German, innovative curriculum and successful course design, successful interdisciplinary cooperation, and significant contributions to the profession.

In total, AATG recognized 18 individuals and two German centers through its awards program. The 2020 award recipients will be recognized at a virtual presentation to be held on November 21.

“With their dedication to excellence in German language instruction, these award recipients promote the transatlantic friendship between the U.S. and German‐speaking countries and foster the much needed intercultural awareness, so their students lead successful lives in a globalized world,” said AATG President Doug Philipp.
