Long Reach, Oakland Mills Students Participate in Hip-Hop String Workshop with World Renowned Duo, Black Violin

April 18th, 2019

Long Reach and Oakland Mills high school students recently got the chance to interact with the internationally known Black Violin, a viola/violin duo that plays classical strings over produced beats. The workshop, held at the Strathmore Music Center in Bethesda, included an artist meet-and-greet, performance, and student improvisation. The musicians shared their personal stories of defying what was seen as “cool” growing up, and finding their own musical path.

“This experience was extremely innovative and positive for our students,” said HCPSS Music Coordinator Terry Eberhardt. “It was a wonderful chance for our students to see a different application of the skills and concepts that they are learning in traditional orchestral classes. Also a great opportunity for our music tech students to see the importance of collaboration and connecting to other areas of music making.”
