The Links Partnership Supports HCPSS Afterschool Programs

December 1st, 2015

The Howard County Public School System is partnering with The Columbia (MD) Chapter of the Links Inc. to collaborate on student programs related to STEM, health and wellness. This longstanding relationship was formalized with an official partnership signing Wednesday, December 2 at the Sheraton Columbia Waterside Restaurant in Columbia, Maryland.

Under the terms of the partnership agreement, the Links will support the afterschool Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement program by providing stipends for staff members, and field trips and healthy snacks for students at select elementary schools. The Links also will provide opportunities for students to participate in existing programs focused on respect and will work with the HCPSS Office of Community Outreach and Engagement to implement a “Can You Imagine Me?” program for elementary school students that promotes healthy choices and wellness habits. Aligned with Vision 2018, this partnership supports equitable access to learning and the development of balanced lifestyles.

Howard County Board of Education Vice Chairman Ann De Lacy, Board Member Ellen Flynn Giles and HCPSS Director of Community Outreach and Engagement Diane Martin joined The Columbia Chapter of the Links President Lenaye Lawyer to sign the formal partnership agreement at the December 2 event.

The Links Inc. is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. The Columbia, Maryland Chapter of The Links Inc. was chartered in 1975.
