HCPSS Joins Alliance for Excellence in School Budgeting

The Howard County Public School System has been selected as a member of the Government Finance Officers Association’s Alliance for Excellence in School Budgeting. HCPSS is one of just 35 school districts across the country and the only Maryland school district selected to be part of the Alliance.

The Alliance for Excellence in School Budgeting is an assembly of school districts working with GFOA to implement best practices in school budgeting. Alliance members include districts from 21 states across the United States serving anywhere from a thousand students up to several hundred thousand students.

GFOA’s Best Practices in School Budgeting outline a budget process that centers on aligning resources with areas of greatest impact on student achievement. Alliance members will work on implementing the best practices over the next year with support and tools from GFOA.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a professional association servicing more than 18,000 government officials and other finance practitioners.
