Important School Safety Message, Sept. 23, 2026

The following message was sent to HCPSS staff and families on Sept. 23, 2026:

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is aware of social media threats made against a number of schools in Howard County and around the state. Partnering with federal law enforcement and the Howard County Police Department, safety measures have and are being taken, including monitoring and investigating threats.

While these do not appear to be credible threats, HCPSS takes them with the utmost seriousness. We will continue to coordinate with law enforcement agencies and will provide further information as appropriate.

The safety and security of HCPSS students and staff is our highest priority. School counselors and staff will be prepared Thursday to meet with any students in need of support.
