Centennial High School (CHS) dance teacher and fine arts instructional team leader Rebecca Clark has been selected to receive the 2024 Outstanding Arts Educator Howie Award by the Howard County Arts Council. Clark was selected based on her contributions to and their impact on the artistic life of Howard County through the arts, arts education, and support of the arts.

“Mrs. Clark consistently goes above and beyond for our performing arts department, supporting both staff and students, as well as the entire Howard County dance community,” says CHS Principal Dr. Joelle Miller. “She creates so many opportunities for her students, from running a Student Showcase where the students choreograph and express their own dance, to a Dancing with the Staff event where the students have to teach a staff member and dance with them. She provides student choice and brings her students’ cultures into her lessons.”

Clark has been a Maryland educator for 26 years. She is currently serving on the Executive Board of the National Dance Society as the Member at Large. She also has served on the Executive Board of the Maryland Council for Dance and on the Executive Committee for the Maryland Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Clark will be honored at the Howard County Arts Council’s Celebration of the Arts gala in November.
