Each year, Howard County staff, students, families, and community members are invited to suggest new middle or high school courses. To propose a new middle or high school course for consideration, please complete this short online form no later than Friday, August 11, 2023.
Patapsco Middle School Establishes New Mentorship Program

Patapsco Middle School has partnered with The D.R.II.P (Deconstructing habits, Reconstructing life, Investing In Play) Youth Program to offer a life skills mentorship program for students. Under the terms of the partnership, D.R.II.P will conduct a mentorship program that assists students with relationship-building, empowerment, managing emotions and career readiness.
Howard County Students Honored at 2023 National History Day Competition

Howard County Schools Excel in 2023 State STEM Competitions

Several Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) schools took home top honors at the Maryland State Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) Day competitions held at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory on May 13. In addition, students from Patapsco Middle School qualified to represent the state in the MESA national competition being held later this month in Albuquerque, N.M.
Challenge Day Provides Opportunities for Cedar Lane Students to Shine

Cedar Lane School (CLS) students, families and staff gathered at the school on Friday, June 2 to celebrate Challenge Day, the school’s annual event in which students participate in a variety of activities and athletic challenges and demonstrate the progress they have made throughout the school year. This was the first in-person Challenge Day since being paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
HCPSS Seeks Members for Mathematics (Academic) Advisory Committee by August 4, 2023

The Howard County Public School System is seeking Howard County high school students, parents/guardians, community members, and staff to join the HCPSS Mathematics (Academic) Advisory Committee (MAC). The mission of the Mathematics Advisory Committee is to give support, lend its collective insights and advice to, and advocate for the HCPSS mathematics program.
Silhouette Stages Partners with HCPSS

HCPSS has partnered with Silhouette Stages to promote a creative and inclusive environment for students. Under the terms of the partnership, Silhouette Stages will support HCPSS LGBTQIA+ initiatives by presenting a theatrical production at Slayton House in Columbia during HCPSS Pride Week that families and staff may attend, offering family engagement workshops and participating in the annual HCPSS Rainbow Conference.
Howard HS Teams Win Countywide Engineering Expo

Two Howard High School (HoHS) teams took home top honors for developing innovative solutions to real-world problems at the annual Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering Design & Development Expo. A team from Marriotts Ridge High School placed third for developing a fire safety device.
