New Recruitment Initiative Seeks to Attract Diverse Educators to HCPSS
To better attract diverse teacher candidates, HCPSS staff have collaborated to develop Realistic, Engaging, Educational Learning Seminars (REELS), a new HCPSS initiative to recruit students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) who are enrolled in educational programs to teach in Howard County.
Taste Test Event Engages Community in School Meal Choices
More than 550 HCPSS students, staff and families attended HCPSS’ first-ever taste test event, held Nov. 14 at Guilford Park High School. Attendees had the opportunity to taste potential and existing school menu items and provide feedback on the items’ taste, texture, and appearance.
Long Reach High School Teacher and Coach Kevin Broadus Celebrates 50 Years as an Educator
Long Reach High School (LRHS) physical education teacher and girl’s field hockey volunteer coach Kevin Broadus has been referred to as a “legend” within both the Howard County Public School System and Howard County. Broadus has worked in many different schools at all levels of teaching, coaching and mentoring youth and is celebrating 45 years in the County, and 50 years as an educator in Maryland.
Update from the Superintendent on the Special Education Program Review
Ensuring that our special education services meet the needs of our students is critically important. So too is cultivating an environment that special educators desire to be a part of. To accomplish both objectives, HCPSS has initiated a comprehensive review of current special education processes, services and other supports to identify areas for immediate and long-term improvement.
