HCPSS Introduces Standards-Based Instruction and Reporting for PreK-Grade 2

New for the 2023-2024 school year, HCPSS will report student academic progress in primary grades (prekindergarten through Grade 2) using standards-based instruction and reporting (SBIR). In alignment with Howard County Board of Education Policy 8010 Grading and Reporting: Pre-Kindergarten Through Grade 5, standards-based instruction and reporting evaluates a student’s progress relative to grade-level curriculum standards rather than by comparison among and between students.

HCPSS Teachers Take Home Top Statewide Honors from Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics

wo HCPSS secondary mathematics teachers recently were awarded honors from the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM). Scott Boettinger of Elkridge Landing Middle School was named the Outstanding Beginning Mathematics Teacher, and Nina Diehl of Murray Hill Mill School was named the Outstanding Middle School Mathematics Teacher.

Federal Impact Aid Forms Due by Dec. 14, 2023

The Federal Impact Aid programs provide financial assistance to school districts that enroll federally connected children. At HCPSS, Impact Aid supplements the operating budget to enhance the teaching and learning that takes place in Howard County classrooms.

Nominations for HCPSS Principal and Teacher of the Year Due Jan. 3, 2024

Nominations are now open for the annual Howard County Public School System Principal of the Year and Teacher of the Year awards. All nominations are due no later than midnight on January 3, 2024.

HCPSS Academy of Health Professions Students Gain Real-World Insights from Healthcare Expert

As part of the HCPSS Academy of Health Professions (AHP) in-class experience, students interested in pursuing a career in the medical field are given the opportunity to hear directly from professionals in the medical community. HCPSS has collaborated with the Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center (HCMC) to bring in guest speakers and provide other learning opportunities for AHP students.
