HCPSS Visual Arts Educators Win Maryland Art Education Association District Awards
Five HCPSS visual arts teachers have been honored with District Level Awards by the Maryland Art Education Association (MAEA). The teachers—Sammy Lerch (Phelps Luck ES), Amanda Pincheira (Running Brook ES), Bradford Sweet-Laughlin (Elkridge Landing MS), Monique Johnson (Reservoir HS), and Hannah Green (Centennial HS)—were recognized for making a significant difference in students’ lives and working to support, grow, and develop dynamic educational experiences for students and district arts communities in Howard County.
Laurel Woods ES/Sheehy Toyota Partnership Provides Student and Staff Support at Every Turn
Over the past year, Sheehy Toyota of Laurel has found a wide variety of ways to support students and staff at Laurel Woods Elementary School. The partnership was formalized in April, outlining plans for Sheehy Toyota’s continued support for LWES and participation in HCPSS’ Apprenticeship Program.

Provide Feedback on HCPSS Inclement Weather Asynchronous Instruction Plan by May 24, 2024
As it has for the last several years, the Maryland State Department of Education will allow local school systems to use inclement weather days as asynchronous school days for the 2024-2025 school year. If approved by the Board of Education, HCPSS will repurpose up to three inclement weather days as asynchronous instruction days.
HCPSS Students Advance to National History Day Competition
Twenty-three Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) students will advance to nationals after placing in the Maryland History Day competition. The 2024 National Contest will be held in June at the University of Maryland, College Park.
