Changes in Social Media and Gaming Access on HCPSS-Issued Chromebooks Effective July 1, 2024

In February, HCPSS announced a change to Instagram access on the HCPSS instructional network. Upon further review, HCPSS is making additional changes regarding student access to social media and gaming sites to eliminate student distraction during the school day and alleviate parent concerns about how students use their school-issued devices at home.

Celebrating 20 Years of Simulated Congressional Hearings in Howard County

This May marked the 20th year that Howard County Public School System 5th graders have participated in Simulated Congressional Hearings (SCH). What began as a pilot program at Triadelphia Ridge Elementary School (TRES) in 2003 today is part of the social studies curriculum for every HCPSS 5th grader.

Summer Job Fairs, June 24 and July 24, 2024

HCPSS will host a Summer Jobs Fair on Monday, June 24 at Wilde Lake Middle School (10481 Cross Fox Ln, Columbia) and on Wednesday, July 24 at Burleigh Manor Middle School (4200 Centennial Ln, Ellicott City). The fair will run noon-4 p.m. on both days.

Howard County Students Excel in MESA State Competition

Several Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) schools took home top honors at the Maryland State Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) Day competitions held at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in May. More than 40 students from seven HCPSS schools took part in the competition, which brought together students from eight Maryland school districts and some private schools.

Celebration of Excellence Honors Graduating Black and African-American Students

The Council of Elders of the Black Community of Howard County (TCOE), in partnership with HCPSS and HCPSS’ Black Student Achievement Program, recently hosted its annual Celebration of Excellence event, recognizing Black and African-American students who maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average throughout their high school careers.
