Judges Needed for Howard County History Day, to be Held March 21, 2026

January 7th, 2026

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is seeking judges for its 22nd District National History Day competition on Saturday, March 21 at Guilford Park High School (8500 Ridgleys Run Road, Jessup).

Howard County’s district competition is part of the Maryland History Day program, which serves as the official affiliate for National History Day, a nationally recognized program that promotes historical research and critical thinking. In the competition, students compete in one of five categories: documentary, performance, exhibit, website, or historical paper. This year’s theme is Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History.

Judging involves a brief time commitment prior to the competition to review category rules and scoring rubrics. Depending on the category, some judges will receive access to student project files the week prior, allowing time to begin reviewing assigned entries in advance. On competition day, we ask judges to be available from approximately 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Those interested in being a judge can register online.

More information may be found on the HCPSS History Day Community Information page. Questions may be directed to Secondary Social Studies Instructional Facilitator Richard Malt (Richard_Malt@hcpss.org) or the HCPSS Social Studies Office at 410-313-6622.
