Get to Know Jonathan Swann, Assistant Principal, Elkridge Elementary School

The HCPSS Get To Know series was created to help staff learn more about system leaders in schools and offices with whom they may not typically interact. HCPSS leaders answer a mix of personal and professional questions in an effort to let all employees get to know them better.

Why did you choose to work in education?

I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher, so that part was a no-brainer. As I have gotten older, I have discovered that education is very multi-dimensional and my experiences have shaped my continued work in education.

What is your role within HCPSS?

As an assistant principal, I work to keep the school moving forward. I engage with students, staff and families to build an environment where children learn and thrive. Something that I really enjoy about being a leader is growing and challenging myself while still engaging with the kids.

What is the best professional advice you’ve ever received?

What is meaningful gets measured!

What is something you like a lot that would surprise people?

I’m a huge weather geek!

What is on your bucket list?

Spending time with the people who matter most to me, especially my nieces and nephew.

What is the most interesting place you’ve ever been?

I spent a week off of the grid in Iceland. I would definitely recommend this trip as a way to disconnect with the world, connect with nature, and enjoy what life has to offer.
