Seeking Members for the Howard County School Health Council

October 15th, 2025

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) and the Howard County Health Department are looking for community members interested in helping guide health and wellness initiatives in our schools and communities by serving on the Howard County School Health Council (SHC).

In alignment with the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR), the mission of the SHC is “to promote health for the whole child through health-promoting programs and policies by providing leadership and support to local school health councils and state and local agencies.”

Howard County has a number of organizations working on behalf of the health and well-being of children and their families, and the role of the SHC is to connect organizations and the school system. Regular meetings will be scheduled to discuss community concerns, and efforts and local initiatives that affect the broader school community. The SHC will work to partner on initiatives that are already in place in the county and provide guidance on new ideas.

The first meeting of the year will be held virtually on Thursday, Nov. 13 from Noon-1 pm. A full meeting schedule is forthcoming.

To participate in the Nov. 13 meeting, or if you are unable to attend the meeting but would like to participate in the future, please email HCPSS Community Schools Health Specialist Shannon Blount at shannon_blount@hcpss.org to be added to the SHC e-mail list and/or receive the login information for the first meeting.
