Calendar Adjustments for the 2025-2026 School Year
May 7th, 2025
On April 29, the Howard County Board of Education approved adjustments to the 2025-2026 School Year Calendar. These adjustments provide additional opportunities for staff professional learning and align inclement weather days with historical trends in order to more quickly qualify for State waivers.
The recommendations do not make any adjustments to the start of the school year, Winter Break, Spring Break or any holidays that are accounted for in the original calendar approved by the Board.
The adjustments are as follows, in chronological order:
- Add a half Professional Learning/Work and Wellness Day on Wednesday, Sept. 17
- Add a half Professional Learning/Work and Wellness Day on Wednesday, Nov. 12
- Remove the Professional Work and Wellness Day on Wednesday, Dec. 10
- Convert Thursday, Jan. 22 from a half day for mid-term grading to a half Professional Learning Day
- Adjust Tuesday, Mar. 3 to half Professional Learning/Work and Wellness Day
- Convert Wednesday, Apr. 15 from a full Professional Work Day to half Professional Work Day and half Professional Learning Day
- Remove the Professional Work and Wellness Day on Wednesday, May 13
- Move the Professional Work Day-Articulation from Thursday, May 21, to Thursday, May 14
- Remove the two inclement weather make-up days on Monday, Jun. 22 and Tuesday, Jun. 23
The first day of school for the 2025-2026 school year is Monday, August 25. See the full calendar online.
