Judges Needed for Howard County History Day – March 22, 2025

March 6th, 2025

The Office of Secondary Social Studies and the Gifted & Talented Education Program are seeking judges for History Day 2025, being held at Guilford Park High on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Judges are asked to be present from from approximately 8 a.m.-1:00 p.m. that day to evaluate HCPSS middle and high school project entries based on criteria set by the National History Day Commission. This year’s contest theme, which has guided students’ research, is Rights & Responsibilities in History.

A week prior to History Day, judges will be given access to students’ project entries, so they can begin reviewing them. Judges will also be provided with the competition rules and rubric to review.

On the day of the competition, judges will participate in an in-person orientation, starting at 8 a.m.

Those interested in serving as judges are asked to register online.

National History Day promotes historical research, while providing a forum at which students compete for excellence in one of five categories: documentary, performance, exhibit, web page, or historical paper. Howard County’s district competition is part of the Maryland History Day program, which serves as the local affiliate for National History Day.
