March 12th, 2025
The following message was sent to the HCPSS community on March 10, 2025.
This message is to inform you that the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) and Howard County Health Department (HCHD) have confirmed a case of measles in a Howard County resident. The school system has not received any indication the confirmed case is an HCPSS student or staff member.
MDH has identified the following locations and times where potential exposure may have occurred:
- Washington Dulles International Airport (Terminal A, transportation to the main terminal, and baggage claim area): March 5, 4-9 p.m.
- Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center Pediatric Emergency Department: March 7, 3:30-7:30 p.m.
Per MDH, early symptoms of measles are a fever of more than 101 degrees Fahrenheit, runny nose, cough, and red, watery eyes. Usually, one to four days after the early symptoms, a red rash appears on the face and spreads to the rest of the body.
Please do not send your child(ren) to school if they exhibit symptoms of measles or any communicable disease. Contact your health care provider with any questions.
