The U.S. Department of Education recently recognized Worthington Elementary School as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School. Worthington was selected for the Exemplary High Performing Schools category, which honors the state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

Worthington Elementary School received a five out of five star rating from the most recent Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) School Report Card, which looks at factors such as academic achievement, rate of chronic absenteeism and access to a well-rounded curriculum. On state tests, 78.8% of Worthington Elementary School students scored as proficient or higher in math and 84.8% of students in English Language Arts.

“I am so proud of the entire Worthington Elementary School community for achieving National Blue Ribbon status,” said HCPSS Superintendent Bill Barnes. “This recognition is a testament to the exemplary administrators, educators and families who work together to support our students each and every day as they strive for excellence. Thank you for your commitment to our students.”

“I want to congratulate Worthington Elementary for being recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School,” said Board of Education Chair Jennifer Mallo. “This achievement speaks to the dedication and commitment of the Worthington community in ensuring student success and working collaboratively on behalf of students.”

“Congratulations to our Wildcats and the Howard County Public School System on this prestigious recognition,” said County Executive Calvin Ball. “Worthington’s administrators and educators should take pride in knowing that their efforts to foster community and excellence have resulted in this impressive achievement.”

Eighteen Howard County Schools have received Blue Ribbon honors since 1985, with Mount View Middle School and Waterloo and Manor Woods elementary schools being recognized within the last decade.

The prestigious 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 7 and Friday, November 8 in Washington, D.C. Photographs and brief descriptions of the 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are available on the U.S. Department of Education website.
